Person Specification - Head of Finance

Essential:

Skills/Experience:-

  • Experience of financial responsibility for budgets, including experience of SORP accounting guidelines, end of year accounts and external liaison with auditors and lenders.
  • Experience of working for a housing association or similar environment.
  • Advanced spreadsheet and IT systems skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing and over the telephone with individuals and with a wide variety of organisation’s and audiences and to research, analyse, and interpret complex information and produce clear verbal and written reports.
  • Experience of running pensions and payroll systems including HMRC submissions.
  • Experience of VAT accounting.
  • Experience of producing monthly cashflows.
  • Be able to work at a strategic financial level, working with Directors and Managers and participating effectively within a leadership team.
  • Substantial experience and ability to pinpoint and understand cost drivers to focus business improvement on what matters most.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, prioritise work, handle pressure and take day-to-day decisions.
  • Ability to develop, monitor and maintain management information systems and procedures.
  • Strong communication, coaching and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage staff, with proven conflict management skills and development of individuals.
  • Effective workforce planning skills to optimise the deployment, development and succession planning for human resources.
  • Flexible approach to duties and working arrangements.

Desirable:

  • Risk Management
  • Experience of producing 30-year Financial Business Plans
  • Experience of working for a housing association/s and housing finance regulation and processes.
  • Experience of effective working at senior level with Boards and Committees.

Essential Qualifications:

  • ACA/ACCA or CIMA or equivalent qualification.
